Principal Engineer – Application Engineering

About the role

Renesas is seeking a Principal Engineer to join its System Application Engineering team. You will work at the forefront of automotive electronics, helping OEMs and Tier‑One suppliers define the next generation of vehicle electronic architectures and MCU solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the evolution of vehicle electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures and assess the impact on MCU design, including central compute and zonalization trends.
• Understand the MCU software ecosystem and its influence on hardware architecture.
• Evaluate software‑hardware trade‑offs for automotive applications.
• Drive thought‑leadership on innovative concepts that disrupt the market.
• Build and maintain technical relationships with key architects at OEMs and leading Tier‑One suppliers.
• Monitor market and technology trends to anticipate product changes.
• Collaborate with Marketing, product managers, engineers and other stakeholders to align system requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level engineering professional with deep knowledge of automotive E/E architecture.
• Proven experience with microcontroller units (MCUs) in automotive contexts.
• Strong analytical skills to assess software and hardware design trade‑offs.
• Ability to influence and lead technical discussions with external partners.
