Professorship in Accelerator Physics (W3)

About the role

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bonn invites applications for a W3 Professorship in Accelerator Physics. The position will focus on the operation, development, and strategic advancement of the university's electron accelerator facilities, particularly the 3.2 GeV storage ring ELSA.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and further develop the ELSA electron storage ring and related infrastructure.
• Design innovative concepts to advance the accelerator facility beyond the current funding period.
• Conduct fundamental research in accelerator physics and contribute to coordinated programs for future accelerator facilities.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in German and English, developing high‑quality teaching concepts.
• Participate in academic self‑administration and departmental activities.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Physics or a closely related field with a strong focus on accelerator physics.
• Demonstrated experience in operating and developing electron accelerators.
• Record of high‑quality research publications and a clear research plan.
• Ability to teach in German within a reasonable time frame and in English.
• Commitment to an open, respectful, and non‑discriminatory academic culture.
