Project Engineer for Secondary Technology (Control and Protection)

About the role

Elia Grid International is seeking a Project Engineer to lead Control and Protection systems for on‑shore and off‑shore substations, supporting the integration of renewable energy and market balancing.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and control secondary technology topics.
• Develop and optimise plant standards, technical guidelines, and protection/control concepts.
• Prepare, plan and review schematics and design documentation.
• Manage service providers and oversee trades during implementation while ensuring safety.
• Coordinate with project team interfaces and contractual partners.
• Monitor project success and track specialised project budgets.
• Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for control and protection systems.
• Create technical and economic variant comparisons and provide decision proposals for reconstructions and new connections.
• Develop and improve existing standards and technical guidelines.

Required profile

• University degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Control Engineering or comparable qualification.
• Knowledge of high‑voltage technology, protection and control systems.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and basic knowledge of SAP and asset databases.
• Experience with StatCom, reactive power compensation systems (SVC, MSCDN, etc.) and HV substation equipment up to 400 kV.
• Excellent German (C1) and good English (B2) communication skills.
• Driver’s licence and willingness to travel for regular day trips.
