Radar Instrument Functional Architect

About the role

Join the Microwave Instrument Engineering team in Germany as a Radar Instrument Functional Architect. Based at the Airbus site in Immenstaad, you will shape the functional architecture of space‑borne radar payloads and work in a highly interdisciplinary environment that blends satellite technology, AI, and secure cloud solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse radar instrument requirements, including operating modes, control sequences and real‑time timing.
• Define the functional architecture and functional requirements for instrument units, modules and FPGA firmware.
• Contribute to software requirement specifications and develop the functional verification strategy at instrument level.
• Collaborate closely with payload system engineering, software engineering, hardware design and algorithm teams.
• Develop nominal and contingency operational procedures and support R&D activities.
• Participate in design reviews with internal stakeholders, customers and suppliers.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with real‑time control of radar instruments is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of functional architecture concepts and verification methods.
