Regional Director – Water & Sanitation, Francophone Africa

About the role

FICHTNER is seeking a Regional Director to lead water supply and sanitation projects across Francophone Africa. You will be the primary point of contact for clients, oversee regional offices, and drive business development in a dynamic, international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation of water and sanitation projects in Francophone African countries.
• Manage contract administration, resources, quality assurance, invoicing, payment tracking, claims, and project finances in close cooperation with local office managers.
• Represent FICHTNER to clients on site and maintain strong client relationships.
• Supervise regional offices and facilities, ensuring operational efficiency.
• Identify market opportunities, prepare technical and financial proposals, and manage bid processes including pre‑qualifications and Expressions of Interest.
• Provide technical support to projects and assume project‑management duties when required.
• Travel regularly within the region and, over time, take on additional regional responsibilities.

Required profile

• University degree in Civil Engineering, Water Supply & Sanitation, Process/Environmental Technology, or a comparable field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in international project business, preferably with exposure to Francophone African markets.
• Proven track record in managing complex infrastructure or consulting projects.
• Full professional proficiency in German and French.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, strong leadership, and confidence in dealing with clients, partners, and international stakeholders.
• Willingness to undertake regular international travel.
