Research Assistant in Computational Chemistry of Nanomaterials

About the role

The Institute of Chemistry at the University of Kassel seeks a motivated Research Assistant to join the Computational Chemistry of Nanomaterials group. The position supports the DFG project DISCOFOX, focusing on perturbative electronic‑structure methods for designing functional oxides.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent scientific work on the DISCOFOX project, including electronic‑structure calculations and alchemical derivative analyses.
• Perform data analysis, numerical modelling, and contribute to scientific publications.
• Maintain and develop the department’s computational infrastructure.
• Participate in public outreach activities to communicate research findings.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Nanomaterials or a related field, completed by the start date.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Experience with atomistic electronic‑structure calculations.
• Programming competence and willingness to undertake a research stay abroad.
