Research Assistant (Pre-Doc) – Planetary Habitability (75% part-time)

About the role

The Freie Universität Berlin invites applications for a pre‑doctoral research assistant position (75% part‑time) within the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1759 on planetary habitability. The role is limited until 30 June 2030 and offers the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree while contributing to cutting‑edge research on the formation and evolution of volatile‑rich and volatile‑poor bodies in the solar system.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct modelling studies to investigate processes governing planetary body formation.
• Analyse geochemical evidence from planetary materials of the solar system.
• Integrate modelling results with geochemical data to predict compositional trends in exoplanetary systems.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spanning natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
• Prepare scientific reports, publications, and presentations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in geosciences, planetary science, chemistry, physics or a related field.
• Strong interest in planetary habitability and interdisciplinary research.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
