Research Assistant (Pre-Doctoral) – Planetary Habitability

About the role

We are looking for a motivated pre‑doctoral researcher to join the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1759 on planetary habitability. The position is 75 % part‑time and runs until 30 June 2030, offering the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree while contributing to cutting‑edge research on organic compounds on planetary surfaces.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate the formation and stability of organic molecules under physicochemical conditions relevant to solar‑system environments.
• Conduct systematic laboratory experiments and analytical measurements.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
• Contribute to the development of a database of potential biosignatures and habitability tracers.

Required profile

• Eligible for a pre‑doctoral (PhD) position (praedoc level).
• Background in chemistry, planetary science, astrochemistry or a related field.
• Ability to work 75 % of a full‑time schedule and meet the funding deadline of 30 June 2030.
• Fluent English for written applications and scientific communication.
