Research Associate – Software Engineering (2 positions)

About the role

The Chair of Software Engineering at Universität Hamburg seeks two research associates to combine teaching with cutting‑edge research. The position offers the chance to pursue a doctoral dissertation while contributing to high‑impact projects in secure software engineering for AI‑integrated and edge AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 4 contact hours per week of computer‑science courses.
• Conduct research in secure software engineering, AI‑integrated systems, and edge AI.
• Allocate at least one‑third of working time to personal academic work, including a doctoral dissertation.
• Participate in academic research projects, produce original results, and present findings at international conferences.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with excellent academic performance in computer science, artificial intelligence, IT security, software engineering or a related field.
• Strong interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of AI, software engineering, and security.
• Previous academic research experience (theses, projects, publications) is a plus.
• Motivation to address real‑world, socially relevant problems through rigorous research.
• Excellent written and spoken English; German skills are advantageous.
