Satellite Communications Technician (OR)

About the role

Trace Systems is hiring a Satellite Communications Technician (OR) at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, to provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of a teleport site. The role covers full-time (24 hours per day, 7 days per week) support for DoD Gateway Systems and earth terminals with associated shelters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide communication and non-communication functions defined in the PWS for continuous support of DoD Gateway Systems and earth terminals.
• Manage, train personnel on, and carry out operation, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, monitoring, reporting and preventive maintenance.
• Meet identified response and restoration times and comply with local labor laws and regulations.
• Perform real-time transmission system configuration control, circuit restoration, activation and deactivation, quality control, performance standards, status reporting and master station logging, in line with DISAC 310-70-1 Chapter 2.5.
• Apply performance and quality control standards from DISAC 300-175-9 and DISAC 310-70-57.

Required profile

• Active, in-scope US government-issued Secret clearance.
• US citizenship required due to the nature of the work and contract requirements.
• Meets DoD 8140 qualification requirements for Work Role 441 (Network Operations Specialist, Basic proficiency); higher proficiency or equivalent certifications may also be accepted.
• Three years of experience in communications software, hardware or networks.
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering preferred, or an Associate's degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, or 11 years of total specialized experience.

Required skills

• Protocol analysis and knowledge of OSI protocols (TCP/IP, X.25, X.400, X.500).
• Experience with ATM, frame, relay bridges, routers, gateways, FDDI and UNIX operating systems.
• Knowledge of strategic SATCOM terminals (C, Ku, X and Ka bands) and strategic UHF systems.
• Knowledge of test equipment operation.
• CNE or ECNE experience and supervision of communication network systems, mainframe or client/server systems is desired.
