School Nurse or Trainee School Nurse

About the role

We are seeking a qualified School Nurse or a Trainee School Nurse to lead and deliver universal public health programmes for children and young people aged 5‑19 within schools and the community. The role involves planning, coordinating and evaluating the school‑age immunisation programme and supporting education staff as the Named Person.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, deliver and evaluate public health programmes for school‑aged children.
• Plan and coordinate the school‑age immunisation programme.
• Support education colleagues in developing Child Plans using the national practice model.
• Provide health assessment, care planning and leadership within the school nursing team.
• Delegate tasks to team members and ensure coordinated care.

Required profile

• Qualified School Nurse (Band 7) or a trainee progressing towards qualification.
• Experience working with children and young people in health or education settings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with education staff and external partners.

Required skills

• Health assessment and care planning.
• Leadership and delegation within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of public health programmes and immunisation schedules.
