School Nurse / Trainee – Alness, Scotland

About the role

The School Nurse or Trainee School Nurse provides specialist community public health nursing to children and young people in schools across Alness. Working within the Getting it Right Practice Model, the role focuses on early prevention, health education and targeted support for vulnerable pupils.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver complex health assessments, interventions and support for school‑aged children.
• Contribute to mental health care across Tier 1, Tier 2 and facilitate access to Tier 3 CAMHS.
• Provide health education, promotion and early prevention programmes.
• Coordinate care by delegating tasks to members of the school nursing team.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, families and external health partners.

Required profile

• Qualified School Nurse (Band 7) or a trainee on a recognised nursing programme.
• Commitment to supporting children affected by health inequalities and poverty.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and follow the Getting it Right Practice Model.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and intervention skills.
• Knowledge of public health nursing principles.
• Understanding of mental health pathways for children and young people.
