Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

We are partnering with a leading circular‑economy company that runs Germany’s largest reusable‑packaging network. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will help build a cloud‑native, event‑driven TypeScript platform that powers logistics, point‑of‑sale, returns, billing and fulfillment at national scale, with future international expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and own core platform services such as partner management, point‑of‑sale, billing, returns, fulfillment and contract management.
• Implement event‑driven, asynchronous integrations using outbox patterns, queues, retries and dead‑letter handling.
• Lead initiatives for international expansion of the platform.
• Collaborate with technical leads on architectural decisions, data modelling and incremental migration of capabilities.
• Establish high engineering standards for testing, observability and operational readiness.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of backend engineering experience with production‑grade expertise in Node.js, TypeScript and NestJS.
• Proven experience designing distributed, async/queue‑heavy systems.
• Strong relational data modelling skills and SQL proficiency (MySQL, PostgreSQL preferred).
• Ability to take end‑to‑end ownership of features from design through operation.
• Experience maintaining legacy PHP codebases.
• Comfortable integrating AI coding agents into the development workflow.
