Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Join Langfuse, the AI tracing platform now part of ClickHouse, to build high‑performance backend systems that handle terabytes of data daily. You will own the ingestion pipeline, optimise ClickHouse schemas and queries, and ensure the platform runs reliably both in the cloud and on‑premise.

Key responsibilities

• Own and optimise the end‑to‑end ingestion pipeline for throughput, latency, reliability and cost.
• Design ClickHouse schemas, tune merge strategies, batch inserts and write analytical queries that power dashboards.
• Build backend abstractions for data‑heavy features such as LLM‑as‑a‑Judge, large‑scale alerting and batch dataset operations.
• Operate Langfuse Cloud across multiple production environments and support both Docker‑Compose and Helm‑based deployments.
• Run load tests on real production data to validate schema migrations and query optimisations.
• Anticipate scaling challenges as the product grows to 10× its current load.

Required profile

• Strong backend engineer passionate about database internals, query optimisation and distributed systems.
• Experience with analytical databases, data pipelines or high‑throughput event processing.
• Comfortable reading and writing TypeScript and SQL.
• Self‑organised, with clear opinions on building and shipping features.
• Interest in open‑source software and engaging with users on scaling challenges.
• CS or quantitative degree preferred.
