Senior Safety Engineer – Loitering Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to lead the safety programme for our advanced loitering munition systems. You will ensure compliance with German, NATO and civil aviation safety standards throughout the product lifecycle, protecting both our customers and our workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, establish and execute the System Safety Program (SSP) in line with MIL‑STD‑882E and NATO safety standards.
• Conduct formal safety analyses such as PHA, SSHA, SHA, O&SHA and FMEA/FMEDA for hardware and software.
• Define, implement and verify functional safety requirements following IEC 61508 adapted for defence applications.
• Prepare safety documentation including Safety Cases, Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Justifications for customer acceptance and certification.
• Maintain awareness of EASA UAS regulations and translate civil‑aviation requirements into system specifications.
• Act as safety Subject Matter Expert in design reviews, test readiness reviews and acceptance boards.
• Support occupational health and safety compliance with German ASiG and ordnance handling regulations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in system safety engineering for defence or aerospace projects.
• Deep knowledge of MIL‑STD‑882E, IEC 61508, NATO safety guidelines and EASA UAS standards.
• Ability to lead safety programmes and produce safety cases for certification.
• Strong understanding of German occupational safety legislation (ASiG).
