Senior Safety Lead for Autonomous Mobility & Delivery Europe

About the role

Uber is looking for an experienced Safety Lead to join its Autonomous Mobility & Delivery (AM&D) Safety Team in Europe. The role will serve as the primary expert on European vehicle type‑approval frameworks and ensure that partners meet Uber’s rigorous safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide subject‑matter expertise on EU vehicle type‑approval regulations (UN ECE, EU 2022/1426, UNECE WP.29) and translate them into actionable guidance for partners.
• Engage with regulators, public safety officials, and industry bodies to interpret evolving AV standards and support certification pathways.
• Contribute to the development of local safety policies and align them with global Uber safety standards.
• Lead safety assessments of AV technology partners, evaluating organizational, operational, and engineering safety approaches.
• Collaborate with fleet partners to ensure operational safety requirements are met.
• Coordinate incident response with internal teams, fleet partners, and regulators.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of safety trends in the European AV and transportation sectors.
• Work cross‑functionally with business development, product, legal, policy, safety operations, engineering, and regional operations teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in automotive, autonomous vehicle, or related safety roles.
• Deep understanding of EU and UK regulatory frameworks for autonomous vehicle deployment and vehicle homologation.
• Proven track record of stakeholder engagement with regulators and industry partners.
• Strong communication skills to convey complex technical and regulatory information clearly.
