Software Engineer II

About the role

Axon is looking for a Software Engineer II to help develop and maintain Dedrone’s airspace security solutions. You will work on high‑performance backend systems, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable software that protects life.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, high‑performance software systems for core products, following best practices such as code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Contribute to new feature design and system component architecture, making sound technical decisions within your ownership area.
• Own end‑to‑end feature delivery, from requirement clarification to production rollout.
• Collaborate closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders to refine requirements and ensure high‑quality output.
• Participate actively in coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and debugging to maintain robust and performant systems.
• Resolve complex technical issues across the stack, including integration challenges, concurrency problems, and performance bottlenecks.
• Support production systems through monitoring, debugging, and implementing long‑term reliability fixes.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for design and development processes.
• Drive improvements in development practices, tools, and system design to boost team efficiency and software quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional experience building and operating backend or distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills in at least one modern language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript).
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and distributed‑systems fundamentals.
• Experience designing and building APIs or services within a microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of network protocols (HTTP/REST, WebSockets, MQTT).
• Experience with databases like PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Knowledge of software quality practices, including testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
