Software Engineer (Java) – Backend & Data Services

About the role

Join the Mélange team at StepStone Group to build and operate AI‑driven parsing and normalization services that turn unstructured job and CV data into structured signals. You will work on backend systems that power data processing across the organisation, collaborating with engineers, ML specialists and product managers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Python.
• Implement event‑driven data pipelines based on Kafka.
• Own services end‑to‑end: design, testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Ensure high code quality through automated testing and code reviews.
• Collaborate with software engineers, ML engineers and product managers in a distributed, international team.

Required profile

• Write clean, testable backend code in Java and/or Python.
• Comfortable with (or eager to learn) distributed systems and event‑driven architectures.
• Take ownership of services throughout their lifecycle.
• Commit to code quality, including automated testing.
• Pragmatic mindset focused on delivering working solutions.
