Studio Engineer – Automotive Design (Munich)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Studio Engineer to join our Munich satellite design studio supporting a leading Chinese automotive manufacturer. The role bridges creative design and engineering feasibility, ensuring that concept and production‑intent designs meet styling intent, packaging constraints and manufacturing requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate design proposals for feasibility, regulatory compliance and brand alignment, integrating package data, ergonomics and technical constraints.
• Provide engineering input during interior, exterior and CMF development, resolving packaging, ergonomics and production challenges while preserving aesthetics.
• Create and maintain Class A surface models and detailed CAD drawings, ensuring manufacturability.
• Manage 3D CAD data exchanges between the Munich studio and the headquarters in China, guaranteeing accuracy and consistency.
• Act as liaison between Munich designers and Chinese engineering/manufacturing teams, supporting prototype builds, design reviews and supplier discussions.
• Support the construction of physical models (clay, hard and prototype parts) with technical guidance and CAD data.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Studio Engineer in an automotive design environment (OEM or Tier 1).
• Strong understanding of automotive packaging, regulations and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent English communication skills and ability to work in an international, cross‑cultural setting.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6.
• Experience with Alias (Class A surfacing).
• Advanced CAD modelling and 3D data management.
