Key responsibilities

  • Design and implement AI‑based methods for operating accelerators in nonequilibrium states.
  • Develop compact accelerator designs with enhanced stability, reduced size, and higher cost‑ and energy‑efficiency.
  • Diagnose and control real‑time instabilities across scales, from thermal effects to collective electron‑bunch dynamics.
  • Demonstrate research outcomes at the Accelerator Technology Platform (ATP) test facilities and partner sites.
  • Establish and lead an independent working group on autonomous particle accelerators within the Institute for Beam Physics and Technology.
  • Participate in Helmholtz Association funding programs and secure third‑party research grants.
  • Contribute to teaching through courses, special lectures, and export lectures.

Required profile

  • Completed doctorate in physics with internationally recognized achievements in accelerator physics.
  • Successful acquisition of a junior research group in a competitive funding program (e.g., DFG Emmy Noether, Helmholtz Junior, ERC Starting Grant) within the last three years.
  • Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Willingness to collaborate with physicists, electrical engineers, and computer scientists.

Required skills

  • Accelerator physics
  • AI‑based control methods
  • Beam diagnostics and real‑time control systems
  • Design of compact storage rings and accelerator components

What we offer
