VAT Manager – Indirect Tax (German/EU)

About the role

This position joins Amazon's Pan‑EU Indirect Tax Planning and Advisory team as a VAT Manager, reporting to the Senior VAT Country Manager DACH. Based in Munich, the role focuses on German and EU VAT regulations while also valuing Austrian and Swiss VAT knowledge.

Key responsibilities

• Provide guidance on legislative requirements, case‑law developments and legal compliance for new product and business launches.
• Maintain regular collaboration and communication with German tax authorities (Finanzamt) and, where applicable, Swiss and Austrian tax authorities.
• Act as a strategic business partner to finance, legal, accounting and technology teams, engaging regularly with senior business leaders.
• Manage external advisers and support other business areas as needed.
• Leverage tax processes and emerging technologies, including generative AI tools, to improve tax operations.

Required profile

• Experience in a large public accounting firm or multinational corporate tax department.
• Fluent in German (spoken, written, read) and proficient in English.
• Strong analytical capabilities and proactive, confident communication style.
• Knowledge of German and EU VAT regulations; Austrian and Swiss VAT knowledge is a plus.
