Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin) – Hybrid, Berlin

About the role

We are looking for a passionate Backend Engineer with strong Java/Kotlin expertise to join rebuy’s small, dynamic team in Berlin. You will work on mission‑critical services such as AI‑driven customer support automation, payment processing and marketplace integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, readable, testable and maintainable code.
• Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback and actively participate in technical discussions.
• Balance elegant design with pragmatic delivery, applying appropriate design patterns.
• Propose architectural improvements and reduce technical debt.
• Take ownership of projects and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
• Maintain existing services and help build new solutions.

Required profile

• 4+ years of professional software development experience in Java or Kotlin.
• Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures and complexity analysis.
• Experience with database design and relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Comfort with CI/CD pipelines and build tools such as Maven.
• Collaborative mindset, curiosity and clear communication.
