Director of Architecture (m/f/d)

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Director of Architecture to lead and grow its architectural practice in Germany. This senior leadership position combines strategic direction with hands‑on design responsibility across the full HOAI lifecycle (LPh 1‑6). You will shape the department’s future, mentor multidisciplinary teams and ensure design excellence for complex infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the strategic direction of the architecture practice in Germany.
• Build, mentor and develop high‑performing teams across multiple offices.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation and design excellence.
• Lead architectural design delivery from concept through technical design, permitting, tender and construction support.
• Provide hands‑on design leadership with authority to approve and defend design decisions.
• Establish design standards, technical governance and quality assurance.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary collaboration to deliver technical integrity and commercial value.
• Develop trusted relationships with clients, developers, investors, public authorities and strategic partners.
• Expand market presence and develop future leaders within the German architecture business.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in an architectural practice, preferably at a senior or director level.
• Extensive hands‑on experience delivering architectural projects in Germany using the HOAI framework (LPh 1‑6).
• Responsibility for authorship, technical accountability and decision‑making throughout all project phases.
• Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across multiple locations.
• Strong client‑facing skills and experience building long‑term relationships.
