Laboratory Technician – Fixed-Term (1 year)

About the role

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team on a one‑year fixed‑term contract. The role involves processing samples, conducting molecular biology experiments, and ensuring accurate data capture within defined timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Register and process samples, conduct experiments and upload results data accurately.
• Perform testing procedures strictly following SOPs and documented laboratory protocols.
• Maintain detailed records, quality data and ensure proper sample handling.
• Conduct inventory, accessioning and tracking of samples using a LIMS system.
• Perform routine laboratory maintenance, order supplies, manage consumable inventories and update instrument logbooks.
• Operate an automated high‑throughput liquid handling machine, oversee a production line and troubleshoot issues.
• Comply with site quality management and health‑safety standards (ISO 17025:2017, ISO 15189:2023, ISO 14001, GCLP, Human Tissue Act 2004).
• Undertake other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology or a related field.
• Minimum of one‑year laboratory experience.
• Strong teamwork ethic and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• High accuracy, attention to detail and strong communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Required skills

• Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) – advantageous.
• Hands‑on experience with PCR, qPCR and Next‑Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis – advantageous.
• Operation of high‑throughput liquid handling equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
