Postdoc Researcher – Transforming Human Rights Cluster

About the role

The postdoctoral researcher will join the Transforming Human Rights Cluster, working closely with co‑PIs from FAU and the University of Oxford. Based at FAU, the role focuses on independent and collaborative research at the intersection of migrant rights and democratic rights.

Key responsibilities

• Map legal practice communities active on migrant and democratic rights across six jurisdictions.
• Develop a preliminary research matrix analysing how migrant rights and democratic rights interact in different country contexts.
• Co‑organise three practitioner workshops to foster dialogue between scholars and practitioners.
• Conduct expert research interviews to inform project outputs.

Required profile

• Completed PhD/doctorate (thesis submitted by start date) with a strong focus on migration and/or democracy in human‑rights studies.
• Experience in legal practice or working directly with practitioners.
• Track record of publishing academic work in English.
• Knowledge of migrant or democratic rights in at least one of the case studies (Denmark, Germany, Greece, Poland, Turkey, UK).
• Strong understanding of European and international standards at the migration‑democracy nexus.
• Training or prior experience with socio‑legal research methods.
