Senior Director Manufacturing Science and Technology

About the role

The Senior Director, Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) provides technical and strategic leadership for a vaccine manufacturing site in Germany. Reporting to the Site Leadership Team, this role ensures the scientific integrity and operational excellence of commercial-scale processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical stewardship of commercial manufacturing processes, including monitoring, optimization, validation, and control strategy development.
• Drive continuous process improvement, oversee complex investigations, root‑cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
• Direct technical transfer of new products and processes from R&D, ensuring right‑first‑time launch readiness.
• Act as primary Subject Matter Expert during regulatory agency audits (e.g., EMA) and ensure compliance with cGMP and safety standards.
• Manage the MSAT budget, resources, and align local technical strategy with global business objectives.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing team of scientists and engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field; advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of pharma/biopharma experience, including at least 5 years in commercial vaccine manufacturing.
• At least 10 years of leadership experience managing teams or organizations.
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to influence cross‑functional partners.

Required skills

• Familiarity with EU GMP controlled environments.
• Knowledge of cGMP regulations and practices.
