Software Engineer – Bibliography & Repository Platform

About the role

Join a leading German university to design and build a modern bibliography, publication server, and research data repository. The platform will be based on DSpace and will support the academic community with robust submission workflows, harvesting, and analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a conceptual framework for the university’s bibliography and research data repository using DSpace.
• Design and implement submission, harvesting, and post‑processing workflows.
• Create role definitions, access‑control mechanisms, and user‑friendly views and statistics.
• Integrate the system with external providers via OAI‑PMH, SWORD, OpenAIRE, OpenAlex, CrossRef, etc.
• Define operational and maintenance concepts, including data migration and production deployment.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Library Informatics, Digital Humanities or equivalent experience.
• Several years of professional experience in software development and web‑application deployment.
• Strong teamwork, initiative, and fluency in German and English (written and spoken).

Required skills

• Java and Python (proficiency in both languages).
• JavaScript, HTML.
• Linux environment.
• Search technologies such as Apache Solr and VUFind.
• Relational databases, Linked Open Data, Semantic Web (RDF, Triple Stores).
• Experience with DSpace and standard interfaces (OAI‑PMH, SWORD, OpenAIRE, OpenAlex, CrossRef).
