Finance Manager / Controller

About the role

The Finance Manager / Controller will ensure operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and financial stability for the organization. You will be responsible for accurate reporting, sound financial processes, and effective cross‑department communication while coordinating with auditors and tax advisors.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all student payment processes and ensure timely, accurate transactions for monthly and yearly payers.
• Conduct monthly meetings with ISA service providers to monitor payment schedules and resolve issues.
• Track and confirm yearly payments to guarantee compliance with financial agreements.
• Provide monthly updates on cash flow, profit & loss statements, and progress on the Financial Business Plan.
• Monitor and analyse company revenues and expenses, including income from partnerships, grants, and student payments.
• Prepare and administer the annual budget, aligning it with company goals.
• Identify and communicate financial risks or blockers impacting operations.
• Collaborate with the CFO to assess and mitigate financial risks.
• Prepare monthly or ad‑hoc cross‑departmental meetings to ensure financial alignment.
• Review monthly financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
• Act as main contact for year‑end financial statements, auditors, and tax authority audits.
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with social insurance providers.
• Prepare and submit required financial reports such as the Hochschulfinanzstatistik.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in finance, accounting or controlling.
• Fluent German for interaction with tax advisors and authorities, and good English skills.
• Strong knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB) and tax regulations.
• Experience with payment processing and bank account management.

Required skills

• Proficiency in DATEV.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with financial reporting software.
