Project Manager Energy Permitting

About the role

Arup is seeking a Project Manager to lead permitting activities for renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects in Germany. You will support the planning and approval of substations, underground and overhead cables, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid energy systems, ensuring projects move efficiently from development to construction readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Support the coordination of permitting activities for renewable energy plants and grid infrastructure projects in Germany.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing permit documentation, including technical studies, environmental assessments and application packages.
• Navigate Germany’s permitting landscape (BImSchG, EnWG, NABEG, BauGB) and contribute to approval processes.
• Liaise with permitting authorities, municipalities, environmental agencies, TSOs/DSOs and other stakeholders.
• Track permitting requirements, approval milestones and documentation to ensure compliance.

Required profile

• Experience in permitting or regulatory processes for energy infrastructure projects in Germany.
• Strong knowledge of German regulatory frameworks such as BImSchG, EnWG, NABEG and BauGB.
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage project timelines.
