Software Engineer - Simulation Platform

About the role

Proxima Fusion is building a simulation platform to accelerate stellarator research. As a Software Engineer you will design, develop and maintain next‑generation tools that enable scientists and engineers to run large‑scale simulations, store data in the cloud and collaborate across domains. The role combines scientific computing, cloud infrastructure and modern web development.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain software solutions for stellarator simulation and design, covering automation of large‑scale workflows and cloud‑based data storage.
• Build web applications that foster cross‑domain collaboration, knowledge discovery and integration of AI tools where they add value.
• Work closely with researchers to apply the platform to specific use cases, guide users, and co‑develop applications that unblock R&D programs.

Required profile

• Strong user‑first mindset and ability to tackle diverse challenges from scientific workflow optimisation to cloud and web system development.
• Proficiency in Python and a willingness to learn or already know technologies such as Pydantic, JAX, React, TypeScript, FastAPI, cloud services and data‑management systems.
• Continuous learning attitude, staying up‑to‑date with modern software development practices and quickly absorbing domain knowledge in a fast‑moving start‑up environment.
