Design Engineer

About the role

As a Design Engineer you will join Westinghouse’s mechanical design team in Mannheim, developing specialised equipment for the repair of nuclear power‑plant components. You will be involved from concept through testing, qualification and field deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and design concepts and equipment used for the repair of key nuclear power‑plant components.
• Create detailed mechanical designs and technical solutions for complex environments.
• Support development, testing and qualification of new equipment, including customer reviews and on‑site activities.
• Drive first‑of‑a‑kind projects from prototype to maturity.
• Prepare project documentation such as work instructions, development programmes, test reports and bills of materials.
• Provide ongoing support for existing products, including troubleshooting, spare‑parts coordination and technician training.
• Collaborate across departments, sites and international teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in development, design and testing of specialised electromechanical equipment.
• Fluent German (native or C2 level) and proficient English (minimum B1, preferably B2).
• Optional French language skills.

Required skills

• Proficient use of CAD design software, preferably Creo.
• Knowledge of machining / chip‑removal processes (optional).
• Knowledge of hydraulics (optional).
• Knowledge of welded structure design (optional).
