Director of Engineering

About the role

You will be our first dedicated engineering leader, reporting to the CTO with a direct line to both founders. Today, engineering at Prior Labs is a small, senior team, and we plan to grow it substantially over the next 18 months. Your job is to build and run that organization.

Key responsibilities

• Directly manage and grow the engineering team, including building out its management layer.
• Build the hiring machine: run hiring operations, design interview loops, and maintain a high bar as the team expands.
• Own engineering standards and velocity: define review, test, and shipping processes and leverage AI coding tools.
• Lead security and compliance programs (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 27001) while preserving speed.
• Manage the engineering side of the collaboration with SAP.
• Treat the deployment layer as a product surface, ensuring customer‑focused API and VPC solutions.

Required profile

• Led an engineering organization of 10+ people, including managers or leads.
• Owned platform or infrastructure at scale, handling serving, APIs, availability, cloud and vendor budgets.
• Experience in both startups and large organizations, capable of creating structure from scratch.
• Scaled an engineering org through rapid growth (e.g., from 25 to 60+ engineers).
• Led engineering in a research‑ or ML‑heavy environment and bridged research code with production.
