Engineering Manager – Site Reliability (EU/UK Remote)

About the role

You will be the first hire to build a Site Reliability function at Pliant, a modular B2B payments platform. The role involves defining reliability practices, establishing on‑call processes and hiring the team that will own SLOs, incident management and observability.

Key responsibilities

• Define a framework for teams to set SLOs and error budgets, and coach product groups on its use.
• Lead blameless post‑mortems, root‑cause fixes and ensure repeat incidents are treated as process gaps.
• Implement production‑readiness reviews so no new service ships without them.
• Close gaps in Datadog observability, including missing alerts, dashboard blind spots and noisy pages.
• Hire and develop the Site Reliability team, setting technical and cultural standards.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years managing engineers.
• Proven track record of hiring, developing and promoting engineers.
• Hands‑on background in production or reliability engineering and personal experience with paging.
• Strong expertise with AWS and Terraform within an IaC pipeline.
• Experience building on‑call rotations and incident‑management processes.
• Deep knowledge of platform observability and effective dashboard design.
• Clear communication for cross‑team technical audiences.
• Experience pushing reliability practices upstream into product engineering.
• Proficiency with AI‑assisted development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.
