Founding Engineering Team Lead – Hands‑On (GoLang)

About the role

We are a newly funded Berlin‑based cybersecurity and AI startup building a next‑generation risk‑management platform. As a founding Engineering Team Lead you will join the core team, work hands‑on, and shape the security, identity and enforcement foundations from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a small, high‑performing engineering team while staying hands‑on.
• Design, build and review production backend and platform code, primarily in GoLang.
• Own delivery of the engineering roadmap, balancing speed, quality and security.
• Set architecture direction, enforce engineering standards and establish lightweight processes.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with CEO, CPTO and product leadership on technical decisions.
• Remove blockers across backend, frontend, data and DevOps.
• Build the security platform from scratch, defining secure service boundaries and deployment models.
• Troubleshoot complex production incidents across infrastructure, networking and application layers.
• Support compliance readiness with logging, controls and evidence collection.
• Continuously improve cost efficiency, reliability and operational maturity.

Required profile

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years leading engineering teams while remaining hands‑on.
• Passion for cybersecurity, AI and building complex platforms in a fast‑paced startup.
• Strong ownership mindset, pragmatism and low‑ego culture.
