Head of Legal / Senior Legal Counsel – Renewable Energy

About the role

The Head of Legal / Senior Legal Counsel will lead all legal activities for the German arm of a fast‑growing international renewable energy group. Reporting to international headquarters, the role supports project development, M&A, financing and contract negotiations across the solar PV and energy storage sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the portfolio of German entities, ensuring corporate governance, renewals, intra‑group agreements and legal formalities.
• Lead capital transactions, internal restructurings, M&A and renewable‑energy acquisitions.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts in German and English, including land leases, EPC, O&M, grid connection, PPAs and service agreements.
• Prepare legal documentation for tenders, bids and project submissions and maintain standard contract templates.
• Provide strategic legal advice, oversee litigation, and coordinate external counsel.
• Develop compliance, regulatory and governance frameworks and support insurance and risk management.
• Organise German legal operations, reporting and process‑improvement initiatives, acting as the primary legal liaison for headquarters.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in German corporate law, renewable‑energy law, commercial law or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of in‑house legal experience in renewable energy, infrastructure or energy projects.
• Proven experience with corporate transactions, M&A, project finance, EPC and commercial contract negotiation.
• Previous leadership or legal‑team management experience is advantageous.
• Fluent in German and English.
