Model Development Student Assistant (Werkstudent) in Berlin

About the role

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is seeking a Student Assistant to join its modeling team in Berlin. This part‑time position offers the chance to develop quantitative modeling tools that support research on vehicle emissions, climate change and air quality.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and adapt Python code across ICCT’s suite of models covering emissions, economics and charging infrastructure.
• Prepare, quality‑check and integrate input datasets required by the models.
• Run models, visualize results and help interpret findings.
• Contribute to published model documentation and follow software development practices.
• Support research projects that assess transportation policy impacts on emissions, energy use and health.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in data science, computer science, physics, engineering or a related field.
• Strong interest in vehicle technology, climate change, air quality, energy or public health.
• Proficiency in data analysis with Python (pandas, scipy, numpy, matplotlib).
• Experience with common dataframe operations such as group, merge, pivot and filter.
• Competence in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

What we offer

• Part‑time contract (10–20 hours per week) for up to one year, with possible extension.
• On‑site work from the Berlin office near Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten.
• Hourly remuneration of €16–18 depending on experience and education level.
