Patent Paralegal

About the role

BioNTech SE is looking for a meticulous Patent Paralegal to join its Global Intellectual Property team in Mainz. The role supports IP attorneys in the prosecution and maintenance of BioNTech’s worldwide patent portfolio and operates in a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Assist IP attorneys with daily prosecution tasks to ensure timely filing of patent applications.
• Monitor internal and statutory deadlines for prosecution, maintenance, and conflict checks.
• Manage group mailboxes, coordinate filing recommendations, and create new invention records.
• Support annual patent portfolio reviews, update the patent management system, and liaise with external law firms.
• Prepare and process Invention Disclosure Forms, including inventor signatures.
• Handle inventor‑remuneration workflows, drafting claiming letters, waivers, and overseeing DocuSign executions.
• Coordinate signature processes, assignments, declarations, powers of attorney, and any required notarizations.
• Review patent expiration dates and annuity payments for accuracy.
• Develop internal quality‑control procedures, checklists, and status reports.
• Perform administrative tasks such as archiving files, managing lab books, and supporting purchase‑order processes.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and a proactive, positive attitude.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Comfortable handling confidential legal documents and interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Experience with DocuSign or similar electronic signature platforms.
