People Operations Lead

About the role

Bioptimus is an AI‑driven start‑up building a universal foundation model for biology. We are looking for a dynamic People Operations Lead to own and shape the People function, supporting a fast‑growing team at the intersection of AI and life sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day People administration: contracting, payroll coordination, employee records, and routine queries.
• Design and run core HR initiatives such as performance reviews, onboarding, probation processes, company policies, employee surveys, salary grids, and compensation strategy.
• Act as the primary point of contact for all People‑related matters, providing guidance and support to employees and managers.
• Lead difficult conversations, including coaching managers on underperformance, handling exits, and coordinating with Legal when needed.
• Identify and develop emerging managers, helping them grow into effective leaders.

Required profile

• Proven end‑to‑end experience in People or HR functions within a start‑up or fast‑growing environment.
• Comfortable handling both operational tasks and strategic HR initiatives.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across the organization.
• Flexibility to work part‑time (approximately three days a week) with occasional additional days during peak periods.

Required skills

• Experience with payroll coordination and employee record management.
• Knowledge of performance management, onboarding, and compensation design.
• Ability to conduct coaching, feedback, and termination conversations.
