Principal AI Vehicle Architect

About the role

As a Principal AI Vehicle Architect you will lead the design of end‑to‑end AI and data architectures for BMW vehicles, ensuring seamless integration of AI models from data ingestion to model serving on edge devices.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement AI and data architectures covering use cases such as automated driving and digital cockpits.
• Provide architectural guardrails and define interfaces for business units and development teams.
• Drive the implementation of scalable AI software platforms using the latest AI technologies.
• Link platform and application development, integrating new requirements into AI and data platforms.
• Collaborate with agile teams to deliver competitive AI products on vehicle hardware.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science or related field.
• At least five years of experience in AI or data architecture.
• Experience with automotive E/E architecture and AI vehicle applications is a plus.
• Leadership experience in agile environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Rust, C++, Kotlin and API technologies.
• Experience with AI training toolchains (pruning, fine‑tuning, multimodal encoding).
• Familiarity with open‑source AI frameworks such as LiteRT LM, ONNX GenAI, ExecuTorch, Llama‑Stack.
• Knowledge of Small Language Models, Vision‑Language Models and autonomous driving models.
• Understanding of multi‑agent systems orchestration and standards (A2A, MCP).
• Deep knowledge of AI execution on hardware accelerators, especially Neural Processing Units (NPUs).
