Project Technical Engineer – HVDC Projects

About the role

You will join the HVDC unit of Hitachi Energy in Mannheim, working on high‑voltage direct current projects that transmit power over long distances. The role focuses on electrical design of main circuit equipment and close collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review electrical designs for medium to high‑complexity HVDC projects.
• Coordinate with the Supply Chain function to communicate technical requirements to suppliers.
• Witness equipment tests, support on‑site commissioning, and evaluate supplier proposals for fitness‑for‑purpose.
• Collaborate with system, mechanical, and control design teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Interact directly with customers and suppliers, providing technical coordination and problem‑solving within project teams.
• Participate in project meetings and present engineering topics.
• Maintain a network of engineering professionals and share best practices across projects.

Required profile

• Engaged, structured, persistent, well‑organized and a true team player.
• Bachelor’s or MSc in Electric Power Engineering or a related field.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.
• Ability to simplify complex problems and apply creative solutions.
• Experience working with high‑voltage equipment or performing rating studies for such equipment.
• Flexibility and an open mindset for an international, multicultural environment.
