Senior DevOps Engineer – In‑house Lead for AWS & Terraform

About the role

Sunday Natural is one of Germany’s fastest‑growing natural health brands, operating an eCommerce platform with 7 million monthly active users on a €400k AWS spend. As the first dedicated in‑house Senior DevOps Engineer you will lead the migration of the entire infrastructure to Terraform and improve scalability, security and compliance across our cloud environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define, propose and defend the infrastructure vision, including deployment, monitoring and scaling strategies.
• Collaborate with two external partners as the internal technical counterpart, establishing architecture standards and bringing platform knowledge in‑house.
• Own the €400k annual AWS budget, optimise spend and drive cost‑saving initiatives.
• Act as the escalation point for production incidents, overseeing on‑call and post‑incident processes.
• Report directly to the Head of eCommerce Platforms and influence technical direction for a growing engineering team.

Required profile

• 7+ years operating production infrastructure with deep, hands‑on AWS experience.
• Strong security mindset, implementing DevSecOps practices, system audits and GDPR‑compliant data handling.
• Extensive experience with Terraform at scale and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Deep Linux expertise (Debian/Ubuntu) and ability to troubleshoot from kernel to application.
• Proven track record managing MySQL under heavy load, including tuning, replication and recovery.
