Value Engineer – Industrial Data Platform

About the role

United Manufacturing Hub (UMH) is building an open‑source data foundation for factories worldwide. As a Value Engineer you will work directly with customers on the shop floor, turning fragmented sensor data into clean, actionable information that drives efficiency, quality and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy and integrate PLCs, sensors and data pipelines in real factories.
• Consult customers to design use cases, implement solutions and capture measurable business value.
• Provide feedback from field deployments to improve the UMH platform’s scalability and robustness.
• Debug, optimise and automate data flows using MQTT, Kafka (Redpanda), Docker, Benthos and Grafana.
• Collaborate with the Product Engineering team to prototype features, test deployments and document reusable patterns.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with OT or IT systems such as PLCs, sensors, message brokers or containerised applications.
• Strong communication skills to build trust with customers and act as a technical advisor.
• Ability to translate messy, real‑world problems into clean technical solutions.
• Comfortable working as a hybrid engineer‑consultant in a fast‑paced, high‑accountability environment.
• Fluent in German and English.
