Vice President of Human Resources (VP of People)

About the role

We are seeking a Vice President of Human Resources (also referred to as VP of People) to lead the HR function for a globally recognized education organization headquartered in Bremen, Germany. Reporting to the executive board, the role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on involvement in day‑to‑day HR operations, ensuring that people processes support the company’s growth and mission.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 20 HR professionals.
• Define and execute the overall HR strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, and integration programs.
• Implement performance management frameworks, including goal setting and feedback cycles.
• Drive organizational development, transformation, and change‑management initiatives.
• Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership and maintain strong collaboration with the works council.
• Manage the personnel budget, ensure compliance with German labor and employment regulations, and promote HR digitalization.
• Foster a strong organizational culture, employee engagement, and cross‑team collaboration.

Required profile

• Higher degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Labor Law or a related field.
• 10+ years of HR experience with proven leadership responsibility.
• Deep knowledge of German labor and tax law and experience working with works councils.
• Demonstrated ability in organizational development, change management and stakeholder management.
• Proactive, start‑up mentality with excellent communication, negotiation and resilience.
• Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken.
