AI Image Augmentation Research Internship

About the role

Join the Mission Systems Concepts department at Airbus Defence and Space as an intern focused on AI‑based image augmentation. You will explore state‑of‑the‑art generative and transformational models to create realistic, diverse images that improve downstream computer‑vision tasks such as classification, detection, and segmentation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a literature review of recent papers on GANs, diffusion models and related image‑generation techniques.
• Set up and familiarize yourself with the development environment, including version control and Linux tools.
• Collect, curate and preprocess image datasets required for model training and evaluation.
• Implement, train and benchmark generative models for image augmentation.
• Calculate performance KPIs, document results and present findings to the team.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Mathematics, AI or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Basic understanding of machine‑learning concepts and experience with relevant libraries.
• Familiarity with Linux, GIT or SVN and software development best practices.
• Good teamwork and English communication skills.
