Associate Researcher – Global Programs (Transportation Policy)

About the role

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) seeks a motivated Associate Researcher to join its Global Program. You will support the Global Analysis and Policy Support team in shaping vehicle regulations and policies that reduce climate and health impacts of on‑road transportation, with a focus on light‑duty vehicles and electric‑vehicle adoption.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce high‑quality technical and regulatory design analyses to inform vehicle regulations and related policies.
  • Review and synthesize vehicle regulations across global markets, applying best practices to new policy development.
  • Analyze government policy proposals to estimate impacts on technology deployment, emissions, and consumer costs.
  • Collect, clean, and interpret large datasets; translate findings into clear technical outputs and policy‑relevant insights.
  • Track global vehicle regulations, EV adoption, charging infrastructure, and related policy trends.
  • Write concise technical reports, policy briefs, articles, and internal memos.
  • Present regulatory analyses and findings in public and private forums.
  • Collaborate with ICCT’s Global and Regional teams, including those in Latin America and Africa.

Required profile

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in engineering, environmental science, public policy, economics, transportation, or a related field, OR a bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience analyzing vehicle regulations such as CO₂ standards, fuel‑consumption standards, emissions standards, or EV availability standards (desired).
  • Familiarity with vehicle powertrains—including internal combustion, battery‑electric, and plug‑in hybrid vehicles—and related emission‑control technologies.
  • Strong analytical rigor, data‑collection skills, and ability to draw conclusions from research.
