Backend Engineer, ClickHouse

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our dedicated ClickHouse team. You will build, scale, and operate the infrastructure that powers our managed ClickHouse service, serving thousands of customers daily. The role involves writing async‑first Python, digging into Linux internals, and delivering features through a robust CI/CD pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Python (FastAPI, asyncio, psycopg2) that manage the ClickHouse lifecycle.
• Operate CI/CD pipelines (Buildkite, GitHub Actions) to ship code reliably and frequently.
• Investigate and resolve production issues across the stack, from application code to Linux system behavior.
• Contribute to technical planning and roadmap decisions within a small, high‑impact team.
• Write well‑tested, type‑checked code and participate in thorough code reviews.
• Leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development.

Required profile

• Strong Python development skills with experience in async patterns (asyncio, aiohttp).
• Deep understanding of relational and analytical databases.
• Extensive Linux knowledge (systemd, process management, filesystem internals), preferably Fedora.
• Hands‑on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with automated testing at unit, integration, and system levels.
• Active use of AI‑assisted development tools.
• Awareness of distributed systems challenges.
• Fluent written and verbal English.
