Backend Software Engineer – Funds Transfer (EU/UK Remote)

About the role

We are hiring a Backend Software Engineer to join Pliant’s Funds Transfers team. The role focuses on building and maintaining the core fund‑flow logic that powers settlements, drawdowns, top‑ups, pay‑ins and billing before money reaches external payment rails. You will work on high‑impact, high‑scale infrastructure that handles thousands of transactions across multiple markets and regulatory models.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, frontend and engineering peers to deliver epics from conception to production‑ready code.
• Shape system architecture by proposing improvements and participating in technical discussions.
• Maintain a scalable, secure micro‑service ecosystem using Java, Spring Boot and Kafka.
• Participate in on‑call rotation, troubleshoot incidents and drive root‑cause analysis.
• Document decisions through RFCs, ADRs and shared knowledge bases to avoid silos.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a passion for best engineering practices.
• Experience designing testable, maintainable and extensible backend systems.
• Proficiency with REST APIs, event‑driven communication patterns and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services and containerisation using Docker.
