Color & Material Designer (CMF)

About the role

Chery Automobile’s R&D Center in Raunheim is seeking a Color & Material (CMF) Designer to shape the visual identity of its European and global vehicle programmes. The role combines digital design, trend research and close collaboration with automotive designers across China and Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and define colour and material themes for new vehicle models targeting European and international markets.
• Collaborate with design teams in Europe and China to monitor and translate global colour‑material trends into production‑ready concepts.
• Create visualisations using VRED or equivalent software to communicate CMF strategies.
• Build physical and digital models, including 2D/3D patterns and prototypes, for showcars and concept vehicles.
• Establish and manage relationships with material suppliers, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of CMF experience, preferably within an automotive OEM.
• University degree in Product Design, Fabric Design or a related field.
• Strong English communication skills; Chinese is a plus.
• Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.

Required skills

• AI‑assisted design tools: Midjourney, Runway, Higgsfield, Liblib.
• Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
• 3D/2D pattern creation and Grasshopper (optional).
• Model building and material definition for showcars.
• Visualization software such as VRED.
• PowerPoint for presentations and supplier relationship management.
