Communication Planner – Public Affairs Strategy

About the role

The Communication Planner will lead public affairs strategic planning at the combatant command level, shaping theater‑wide communication campaigns and engagements. This role translates command priorities into actionable public affairs plans and creates a variety of communication products.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute communication campaign plans and public affairs engagements aligned with command strategic narratives.
• Interpret commander’s strategic documents to draft theater‑wide public affairs plans.
• Produce press releases, talking points, leader remarks, social‑media content, and briefing packages.
• Review, edit, and staff public affairs guidance and ensure consistency across staff and component offices.
• Coordinate with public affairs offices to integrate opportunities into broader command campaigns.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of joint planning and media operations experience.
• Proven ability in strategic communication planning and drafting public affairs products.
• Secret security clearance (ability to obtain TS/SCI is a plus).
• Bachelor’s degree and completion of Defense Information School (DINFOS) training.
