Communications Director and Staff Director

About the role

We are seeking a Communications Director and Staff Director to lead strategic communication efforts and provide operational support for a fast‑growing organization focused on AI safety. Based in Germany and fully remote, the role blends storytelling, project coordination and systems thinking to amplify research impact and strengthen internal effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute multi‑channel communications strategies that raise awareness and engage key audiences.
• Guide the creation of clear, compelling content – articles, research summaries, social media posts – that translate complex AI safety work into accessible narratives.
• Manage social‑media planning, publishing cadence and brand consistency across platforms.
• Partner with researchers and program teams to craft narratives around technical work and organizational priorities.
• Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, prioritising initiatives, coordinating workflows and improving organisational alignment.
• Establish and maintain systems for tracking projects, deliverables, timelines and objectives.
• Facilitate cross‑functional communication, ensuring visibility and accountability across initiatives.
• Develop and implement internal policies, procedures and documentation to support efficient operations.
• Co‑manage executive support resources and oversee compliance and operational needs.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic communications within a research‑oriented or technology‑focused environment.
• Strong judgement, adaptability and the ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for making scientific content accessible.
• Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams and aligning priorities with leadership.
• Organisational systems thinking and a track record of improving internal processes.
